For a while now, my computer has been freezing up, and then little yellow horizontal lines cross the screen whilst the picture gets shaky.
The computer is pretty damn old.
Just recently it has started getting bad when I try to edit my videos in Windows Movie Maker.
It will give me a few good minutes of editing, sometimes even 20 minutes, and then will freeze.
I then have to literally restart my whole system.

PLEASEEEEE help me figure out what the problem is. (:
Thanks.

I had a similar problem after I upgrade my GPU to an ATI hd 5770. I just updated my drivers and it fixed it.

The best way is to download Ccleaner here http://bitly.com/UrALrK

Or you can go on Windows operating system locate the command prompt and go there to do the following:

Create a Recovery file of system and date it today.

Then begin by;

delete the 'Temp' folders..they have hidden subfolders so you need to set the attributes in order to bypass this. For each subfolder delete all cookies and rubbish left behnd after install-uninstalled programs. Do a 'dir' command to check your progress. Make sure the 'Temp' file is empty.

goto c:\windows\prefetch and delete everything in there..no exceptions

goto c:\windows folder and delete all the '$' files that have been installed by updates. They can all be succesfully deleted and just take up disk space.

Locate the Internet Temporary Files..Check to see how high the saving level is..some have it set at 30 days..but that stores faaaar tooo much data..though it slows down the system overal. Keep this to a minimum..suggest 2 or 5 at most.

Delete all 'cookies' all those you don't need.

Locate the windows directory and go through the folders you know and those you don't need. Check this once a week at least. Some programs will install under XP as NT and older systems where there is no check of systems weight.

Check to see that system files have not changed since last booting. Things like .ini files or .bat are important items.

Check for 'Hidden Directories' all over the disk...do this at the command prompt:

dir *.* /ah wil show these hidden directories

Check the 'dir' command for all parameters

There are many possible reasons for this kind of Crashing...

1. System Errors:

Many errors in system or corrupt data in windows registry leads to crashes. First you need to fox those with any good software toll available such as RegInOut. It will also impact computer performance in positive way.

2.Virus or Trojans:

If you find your Computer Crashes, run an updated virus scanner as you could have a virus.

3.Fragmented Disk:

As files are added, deleted, and updated on a disk, the contents of the file can become spread across different sectors located in different regions of the disk. This is called file or disk fragmentation. Disk fragmentation can slow down your machine because the disk heads have to move back and forth to find all the fragments of a file. Windows comes with it's own disk defragmentation tool and the microsoft website explains how to run it.

4.Repair system files:

When trying to solve Computer Crashes problem, the Last Known Good Configuration will only repair the registry data. But if there is something wrong with the system files, it will result in system instability or failure to log in the system. So a scan with the system command "SFC" is needed. Once a file is found to be missing or damaged, you will be prompted to insert the installing CD to restore the original file. You can go to Start -> run -> type "sfc /scan now" and then "Enter" to begin the scanning. By the way, please remember to use a patched CD to restore the system if the operating system in the installing CD is an older one, avoiding a restore to an older version.

I have same question to you.

My computer kept crashing with illegal operation errors.

At first I thought it was a virus, but my antivirus wasn't able to find anything wrong.

I ran your software and found over 300 errors!!!

After it corrected them, my computer was no longer crashing!

Thank for saving me a lot of time and headache! You fixed my PC when nothing else did!

fails it is time to reformat your hard drive and wipe your pc clean, this can take hours and you will probably need the data recovery disc that you should have got when you bought the pc.

it has occurred to me as quickly as too, what I even have performed then replaced into to place in dwelling house windows from my restoration disk so as that's what i'm going to be recommending you. and once I even have put in dwelling house windows, it replaced into all ok returned. and that i've got picked up my archives from risk-free mode so i did no longer lose any archives.
