I need to have the text larger so I lower the resolution for my crt monitor...works like a charm...cannot be said the same for my new lcd monitor...when i lower the resolution it gets really blurry....am i better off getting a lower resolution lcd monitor versus a higher resolution monitor if i really need to have everything big? adjusting the dpi helps but not totally....btw, i have windows xp

If you're downscaling from 1920X1080 to 1360X786 (almost half the amount of pixels) then to produce the image multiple pixels have to be blurred into the equivalent of a single pixel, thus losing sharpness and clarity along with image quality, either use the monitor at its native resolution or get a monitor with the resolution you plan to use. CRTs won't have the problem as they don't have individual pixel elements and instead draw the image at whatever resolution is selected with (assuming nothing else changes, which sometimes something does when changing resolution in CRTs making the pixels slightly less sharp and needing the settings to be readjusted) the same clarity no matter why would you want to pay for resolution you're not going to be using anyway?

I know you said adjusting dpi helps but not totally, well, I just tested it and i was able to make the text so big I could read it from across the room. If you already know how to do a custom dpi and it didn't help, read no further. Right click on your desktop background, choose properties. Click on the settings tab and then click advanced. Click the pull-down box for dpi and choose custom setting. Click anywhere on the ruler and drag to the right to increase text size and left to decrease. Find something that works! Otherwise I think your best bet might truly be to buy a lower res monitor!

Keep your LCD monitor at the highest resolution as that's the optimum setting for it. Normally, higher resolution is better if you have a correspondingly large screen.
