My computer, and older Gateway desktop (I have no clue about the specific model) won't recognize the monitor. I've tried two different cords with two different monitors, no combination is working. The computer is on, the fans are on, we opened it up and it was dusty, we blew the dust off, and now it's still not working. Please help!

Does it get so far through the booting process and then the monitor turns off? Or does it not come on at all?

If the first option it might be that the refresh rate on windows is set higher than the monitor allows (older CRT monitors can do 75hz whereas monitor/tvs can only do 60 in which case windows would be set too high and not be able to display the picture. You would need to boot into safe mode if that was the case to set the refresh rate accordingly.

If its the second option its likely to be the graphics card that has failed, in your case it might be the motherboard that has failed, but if the monitor doesnt work how do you know it does not recognise the mouse or keyboard? Does it make beeps when you turn it on to signify an issue?

Computer components (graphics cards especially) are very sensitive, and can easily be damaged by static electricity. If you discharged static while cleaning, either from your body or compressor air, vacuum cleaner, you most likely caused damage to components.

Most likely the graphics card and/or motherboard are busted.

You can try to remove and remount the graphics card (if it even has one), making sure it is properly seated in the motherboard socket.

Is the monitor working with other computers?

jointly as this difficulty looks undesirable, earlier you think of roughly changing the motherboard examine that the potential grant cables to the motherboard are shelter and precise plugged in. On very uncommon events it relatively is conceivable that an intermittent connection or grimy connection the place the potential grant cables plug into the motherboard could be the difficulty. i've got seen it as quickly as earlier. try unplugging each and every cable and plugging it back in lower back. it relatively is properly worth a try.
