I've been thinking of purchasing a new desktop and I was wondering if my old monitor, (I believe its LCD) can connect to a new desktop. Does it matter as long as the monitor is working?

the other answer neglects the fact that u must verify what ports the new desktop video adapter has available.
Blue - VGA = Video Graphics Adapter = low resolution
White = DVI = digital Video Interface = high resolution
there is also a DVI to VGA adapter
I think ALL LCD monitors are at least VGA
Newer ones are DVI. Some have both.
Bottom line = YES it will work.

All old monitors will work with a new desktop, but whether you could really find them useful or not it depends. New monitors support HD (i.e. 1920x1080 resolution). Older monitors from about 10 years ago used to go up to 1024x768 or 1280x1024. Not so old monitors from about 5 years ago can do 1366x768 or 1680x1050, to name a few examples. Sometimes a lower resolution isn't a problem (and buying 3 1920x1080 monitors isn't practical or cheap).

yeah an lcd should run fine. just check the plug you use right now. if its white its dvi (newer kind) if its blue its vga (older kind but still used frequently)
even those old giant tube monitors will work. as long as it is not probably more than 15 years old it should work fine.
