Does hitting F11 help at all (on your keyboard)?
That's what I usually hit by mistake.

1. Hover the cursor over the bottom of the screen, You should see the bar pop back up.
2. Right Click, When the selection bar pops up click 'Lock the Task-bar' (A tick should be next to it)
3. Move the cursor away and the task-bar should stay there without fading.
Hopefully this solves your problem. I have had it happen many times in the past.

Move your mouse to the bottom again.
The taskbar will visible then.
Right click and goto properties.
Uncheck auto-hide taskbar option.
Apply and ok.
Things become normal again.
