I need a relatively inexpensive flat panel monitor for my computer - I don't have the best graphics card, I just need something lighter than a CRT monitor. A 15" or 17" would work fine. Any brand suggestions? Thanks!

Most LCD monitors are pretty good and very similar in performance for routine computer use. If you are going to do high quality gaming or computer drafting, my answer would be different, but it sounds like you just want a better monitor than your present CRT.
I would buy on price. LCD monitors have dropped dramatically in price so you should be able to find a 15-inch for $100 or so and a 17-inch for a few dollars more. A 19-inch starts getting a bit more expensive relative to smaller sizes.
Last weekend at a local Office Depot store, they were selling 17-inch LCDs for $150 plus a $50 rebate, bringing the price down to a little over $100. Good brands too.
I would check Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot and Office Max (and others in your area) for sales. Most sales start on Sunday in my area. You might also try ebay, but I haven't found any "bargains" there for quite awhile due to shipping costs.

for inexpensive, try tigerdirect.com
look for:
lowest response times (5ms or lower)
highest resolution 1440 x 900 for digital out, 1280 x 1024 for regular
high contrast ratio
good warranty (1 year is standard, 3 years is best)

Some nice ones here, for less money, pretty good brands..Good Luck>>
For that budget you can get 20inch or 22inch. So, get the DELL IN2030M HD LED for 6k or BenQ G2220HDL for around 7.2k. Selling your CRT would fetch you around Rs.600.
