Ok, so i want to get a VGA splitter cable because my TV which i also use as my PC monitor is 32" which is fine for when i'm playing xbox from my bed or watching BBC iPlayer, but when i am sitting at my desk typing, it is too much. I have a 17" PC monitor in my loft and i wanted to know if i attached one end of the VGA cable to my PC, one to my TV and one to the 17" monitor if i will have a double screen. Also does this have any thing to do with my graphics card because i read in a forum something about it wearing out/draining your graphics card but that may have been about something else. Also, can i use the xbox on the TV screen and use the other screen to control my PC.

Unless your TV or monitor has a VGA output connector that duplicates the signal going into it, you can't just connect PC->monitor->TV or PC->TV->monitor.

Instead you will need a real VGA splitter cable, like this one:

This may not work perfectly though, since the power of the signal at the output ends will be half of the original (since it's being split). This could cause a bad picture on either or both displays connected to the cable. To fix that, you can get a powered/amplified splitter box instead, like this one:

well this depends if you want to use both of your screens at the same time

as they are different sizes if you do it might be a bit tricky because of difference in screen resolution.

(I recently tryed to hook up two screens of different size and resolution to my pc to be on at the same time and the results wern't good)

it also depends on whether you have a Graphics gard with multiple outputs. if it does you can switch to your small moniter for working at your pc and then to your 32" screen for watching iplayer etc.

but if it only has one output you'll have to find a splitter that allows you to switch between each output rather than having them on at the same time or if you can't get one of them simply switch the screen you're not using off when you're using the other and vise versa..

very long winded but i hope this helps

You can use a VGA splitter for that purpose, but only to duplicate the screens (the exact same thing will show up on both displays). If you want two "separate" displays (extended desktop), then you need a graphics card that supports dual or triple displays.

just sounds like you bought a really cheap model of splitter that doesn't truly do what its supposed to. If you shopped around and chose the least expensive one on ebay, then you probably got gipped

I hope you get the same level of help as when you advised someone to shoot loads of people then himself.. why do you read these questions only to make vile comments like that? ahh.. but then look at YOUR question... PC? XBOX (from your bed!?)....... I think theres a picture emerging..................
