If you have a CRT (the TV style looking ones) then you might be able to use 1024x768 or 2048x1024, use the one that is the clearest.



However, by you saying flat screen, I am assuming you mean the LCD type (those thin desktop monitors, like laptop monitors) Then you realy need to set the resolution to the same as the number of pixels in the monitor.



most 17" LCD monitors are 2048x1024, however it would be wise to look up the specs on your monitor.



The resean you want to set the to the monitor specs is becouse you monitor has X amount of pixels wide and Y amount tall. and if you set your computer to something different, then it will be blurry, due to some pixels not showing or some items being displayed by 2 pixels.

Read the manual and find the monitors native resolution and set it to that setting.

well if ur into drafting/drawings* u can use resolutions of 1280x1024 to give u more desktop space. but if ur only using ur pc to watch movies, play musics, games, typing, a resolution of 1024x768 will do.
