i have a hp pavilion dv4000 lap top and i need a cable that plugs into both my lap top and a Princeton monitor that was given to me. i already got some advice about getting a VGA cable but i have no idea what that means- and i looked up pictures of a VGA cable and it looks like it could connect to the monitor but not my notebook? any advice, pictures, websites, every thing helps..thanks!

Many laptops have a VGA out port. I have a dv5000, and for me, the VGA out is on the left side, about even with the power button. It will look like a trapezoid with 15 holes (3 rows of 5, unevenly spaced)

every laptop has a VGA port. They just typically dont have the screws on either side but that doesn't matter as you can still fit it inside. Other opinions include S-video cable or an HDMI cable if u have an S video port or HDMI port..but id just go with the VGA.

you need a monitor cable to connect your laptop to another monitor. so if you want to make that cable by your self it's really hard, but you can find map of cable for make that or simple way is go and buy a monitor cable.

It's possible you may need a certain type of adapter to make it fit. Take your laptop down to a knowledgeable computer shop (not Circuit City or BestBuy) and I'll bet they'll have the part in stock and can fix you up in no time.
