IBM T40 Laptop, using the standard Monitor Out cable into the HDTV-READY plasma display.
How do I get widescreen? Where can I download new drivers. I do not care if the entire screen is not visible on my laptop screen as long as I have the entire widescreen display.

your VIDEO ADAPTER must support the wide screen resolutions, if it does not, then you can't.

right-click on the desktop, (not on any Icon,) choose 'properties'. click the 'settings' tab.

The available resolutions that your Video Adapter will display can be seen if you move or click to the left or right of the slider bar. If it is all the way right, or left, the click the other side of it. If it only shows, say 2 resolutions, then you may have just the 'standard video adapter' installed, and you would bennifit from installing the drivers for your video from the Laptop Mnfr again.
