I have a Pentium D 2.80 GHz PC with XP SP 2. I recently tried to watch a videoo I captured from my cam. I converted it directly to DV-AVI HQ video and tried to open with vlc and Windows MP 9/11. But the video doesn't play smoothly and seems to be a little too HD for playing. These are the specifications of the video.

Video: Codec-dvsd , res-720x576 , display res- same , frame rate-25

Audio: Codec-araw , Sample rate- 32000 Hz, Bits per sample-16.

It gets stuck and buffer continuously while I hear broken sounds from the speakers. Then I played the same file with my laptop Intel Centrino Win7. Both MP 12 and Powerdvd 11 were able to play the file flawless. So I know there is nothing wrong with the video. Will my PC be able to play it if I install Powerdvd. Or does it have something to do with my monitor(17" LCD)? I remember I had the same problem with an HD video from Youtube.

Sounds like the processor in your pc cannot decode the video fast enough to play it smoothly. Is your CPU usage maxed out?

Your laptop is either newer or possibly has some hardware acceleration on the graphics card enabling it to run more smoothly.

If you want to watch the vid on you pc try a different codec or use a lower res

You might have some luck installing VLC media player and enabling GPU acceleration (assuming you have a card that supports it) but if that doesn't work your PC is far to old.
