If you have Windows XP, open the Display control panel, and click the settings tab. There should be a slider where you can increase the resolution there.

If the slider is stuck at 640x480 then there is a problem with your graphics drivers. To try to fix this, click Advanced, click the Drivers tab to see what type of graphics you have. Then go to the web site of that company and download and install the most recent drivers.
